BROTHERHOOD OF RAILITAY AND STEAIISHIP CLERKS,
FREIGHT HANDLERS, EXPRESS AND STATION EMPLOYES
versus
MISSOURI PACIFIC RAILROAD C014PAIIY
STAT:'~U^CITT OF CLAIM
: Request of employes that, effective as of March
15,
1955,
or on the first date the Carrier began the use
of a loudspeaker or communications system in the checking of freight at
Kansas City, Missouri, the Carrier agree to an adjustment in rates of pay
of employes engaged in the handling and recording of shipments under the
changed system, as set forth in formal notice of March
14, 1955.
FINDINGS
: It appears to us that since the inauguration of a speaker com
munication between stoi%man and check clerks in the checking of
freight at Kansas City the responsibilities of the stowman have been
sli.-htly increased because the-check clerk is no loner present at the
scene to check their selea, ion, calling and chalking of the various items
of freight.
Under the circumstance s,. this Board finds that the rate for stovmian
should be increased four cents (4¢) per hour. Since %,is find no corresponding increase in responsibilities, skill or other factors upon which ,job
rates are evaluated in the case of check clerks and dock foremen, the remainder of the claim must be denied.
AUARD
: The claim is sustained to the extent that stowmenps rates shall
be increased four cents (l40) per hour effective April
16, 1957,
and is otherwise denied.
