PARTIES The Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks
TO
DISPUTE) St. Louis
Southwestern Railway
Company
__; OF CLATM: Claim of the System Committee of the Brotherhood:
(1) That Carrier violated the Clerks? current Agreement when, on April
25,
1955,
it abolished Camp Steward positions on Extra Gangs No s. 1,
5, 7-T
and B-T,
while the work of the said positions yet remained.
(2) That Messrs. Dewey Burnside and 4T. B. Jenkins and any other Texarkana
Dining Car Department employees, who may be affected, be reimbursed for any
monetary loss for which they may have, or might suffer, as a result of the Carrier's
action in abolishing the Camp Steward positions April
25, 1955,
and until the violation is corrected.
FINDINGS: Claim is made here because Camp Steward positions on four gangs were
consolidated and new positions of two camp stewards advertised.
The facts disclose that the number of men employed on the four gangs
involved had been reduced to such an extent that there was not sufficient work on
any one gang to justify the employment of a camp steward, but by rearrangement of
the work carrier was able to provide a job for a camp steward by using him on two
gangs. That was what was done here, and there was no violation of the agreement.
AWARD: Claim denied.
