SgPATEMENT OF =IM:

OPINION OF BOARD:

On June 10, 1960, due to a derailment which had caused damage to the structure of float bridge No. 1, Pier "J", Port Richmond, Philadelphia, Pa., carpenters, wharfbuilders, a blacksmith and his helper made the necessary repairs to restore the bridge to service. In connection with work on the crab rigging, the blacksmith and helper burned off twisted bolts, removed the bearing and hand wheel shaft, cut the bearing shaft and removed same from the crab gear frame, repaired and straightened the shaft in the shop at Pier 6 and installed and lined up the assembly in the crab rigging at the subject float bridge. The task of installing and lining up of the assembly in the crab rigging represents the work which the 0tganization contends should have been done by carpenters or wharfbuilders.

The evidence discloses that the work in dispute is work which wharfbuilders (carpenters) normally perform. These employees were available to do this work on the date in question. The claim will be sustained, but at pro rata rate.
